Description

This Komet 1557 floor lamp was designed by Per Sundstedt for the Swedish manufacture Kosta Lampan AB during the 1970s. This lamp is made of metal: chrome-plated and black. It has a height adjustment system in the range of 108-140 cm. The T-shaped base with wheels is made of metal. The movable shade makes it easy to change the direction of the light.

Per Sundstedt is considered one of Sweden’s most creative lighting designers. He graduated from Konstfack in Stockholm in 1964. His diploma thesis was a bedside lamp with mechanical dimming, which he called Candela 1. Upon graduation, he was awarded the silver medal of the Swedish Crafts Association, which was considered the greatest award a student could receive. He got a job at Lampan (later Kosta Lampan, acquired by AB Fagerhult), where he created the Hinken pendant lamp and Candela’s bestseller. In the mid-1960s, he designed the innovative Rikta desk lighting for the main building of the State Archives in Stockholm. The lamp was screwed to the tables in the reading room and counteracted reflections and glare from the illuminated paper. For the lighting company ZERO Interiör Per Sundstedt he designed PS series luminaires, including Berg and Bill lamps. Together with Bengt Källgren, he created Spotty, Cyklo and Trix. He received the Excellent Swedish Form design award in 1989. For Ateljé Lyktan, he designed the Mars table lamp.

This lamp is in original vintage condition. It has small scratches and scrapes due to its age. The light switch is located on the shade. The lamp requires an E27 bulb with a maximum power of 100W.
