Peter Foeller was born in 1945 and grew up in Königsbach. He studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim and the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Since then, his works have been exhibited all over the world. As a result, he is one of the most successful German artists in the country. It is not easy to describe the language of Foeller’s work. Art connoisseurs also argue over how to accurately classify his works. The artist opposes any hasty attempts to catalog and is opposed to pigeonholing. There is an important feature in his work, a recurring leitmotif, which art experts outline as synthetic principles of creating aesthetic order and disorder. Foeller’s life motto is the formation of extremely opposing pairs of opposites for which there are many symbolic names: clearly shaping constructive mind versus primal force, intellect versus emotion, reason versus mysticism, logic – illogicality, consciousness – unconsciousness. He treats the images as opposites, with a geometric and amorphous form, with sharp edges and a cloudy nebula, with steadfastness and liquid splashes, with stiffness and extraordinary vitality.
