Description
This Colorado three-seater sofa was designed by Folke Ohlsson for the Swedish manufacturer Bodafors during the 1960s. The organic-shaped frame is made of solid teak wood with natural tone. The comfortable seat and backrest cushions are upholstered in a gray fabric. The sofa has a timeless design from the Mid-Century Modern era, and the style is characteristic of Scandinavian modernism.
Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded Dux Incorporated, which was a huge success. The designs of Ohlsson’s armchairs and sofas are appreciated for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. Accordingly, his work has brought many recognition and awards, including the best design at the 1964 Milan Triennale exhibition, as well as the Royal Order of the Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustav VI Adolf.
The Bodafors brand is known under various names, including AB Bodafors Chair and Furniture Factory, AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna and Bodafors, Svenska Möbelfabriken AB. Bodafors was one of the earliest Swedish incubators of application and the later reputation of Scandinavian functionalism in furniture design. The name comes from the city where the company is located, in the Småland region of Sweden. The company remained an important player in the Swedish design market until its dissolution in 1971, when it became part of the Mälmo-based DUX furniture group.
This sofa is in original vintage condition with minor traces of age, with slight scratches and discoloration on the upholstery. The seat is at a height of 38 cm.
