Description

This leather armchair was designed by Hans Olsen for the Danish manufacturer CS Møbler in 1958. This is the 800 model. The armchair is low, with a slim and organic form. It is characterized by extraordinary lightness compared to other classics of the design of that period. This piece is upholstered with high-quality natural leather in a cranberry color. The legs were made of dark noble rosewood. The armchair is elegant and comfortable due to the rounded form and perfect ergonomics. The seat is supported on Rotex rubber belts, which were used with high quality, Scandinavian furniture only. This armchair is a example of Mid-Centure Modern era. The signature is stamped on a wooden beam under the seat.

Hans Olsen was the famous Danish designer. In the years 1941-1943 he was a student of Kaare Klinta at the Furniture School of the Royal Danish Academy. He belongs to the group of Danish furniture designers who decided to experiment with both form and materials. In 1953 he founded his own studio, in which he designed and produced a series of eye-catching furniture in his characteristic style. He exhibited them at the annual Copenhagen Guild Fair. He is the author of many recognizable projects, for example Shell Chair [1955], Fried Egg Chair [1956] or the futuristic Bikini chair [1968] which, like other chairs from his studio, was made of bent, laminated wood. Although he did not belong to the mainstream of the Danish Modern School, he designed a number of items for furniture producers, including Bramin Møbler, Juul Kristensen, Cs Møbler and Frem Røjle.

The armchair is in the original vintage conditions. It has minor traces of use, scratches, scrapes. The seat is at a height of 41 cm.
