Jean-Pierre Tanguy, painter, engraver and mosaicist, born in 1945 in Paris. He was not yet two years old when his parents, following their dreams of adventure, joined the circus. Tanguy’s childhood is marked by an extraordinary lifestyle where freedom rhymes with friendship. His entire life was influenced by the years he spent in Verdine (Gypsy caravan). From an early age he was interested in visual arts. After studying at the Lycée Technique des Arts Appliqués, he entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, from which he graduated in 1972. He became an assistant to Jacques Lagrange and then to Jean-Marie Gravier, the next head of the ENSBA engraving studio. A few years later, Tanguy was appointed professor in charge of the engraving workshop at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. His works (pastels, watercolors, oils on canvas) were inspired by travels. He was always attracted by the work of painters such as Maurice Estève, Nicolas de Staël and Pierre Soulages. They influenced his work. In 1988, he has a large exhibition at Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris. Since then, Tanguy’s works have been presented at numerous contemporary art markets and exhibitions in France and abroad. His works are in many important art collections around the world.
