Description
This set of two modernist chairs from the Lis series was designed by Niels Koefoed for the Danish manufacturer Koefoed Hornslet in 1961. The chairs are made of dark, noble rosewood. The upholstery is made of high-quality brown leather. They were designed as dining chairs, but due to their elegant shape, they will fit equally well in other parts of the home or office. The chairs have a high backrest with ergonomic horizontal slats and a comfortable seat, which contributes to high comfort during use. The chairs have burnt signatures.
Niels Koefoed was a Danish furniture designer and owner of the Koefoeds Hornslet factory. Named after the city where it was located. The furniture factory was founded by Niels’ father, Einar Koefoed in the 1920s. The town of Hornslet boasted three furniture manufacturers at the end of the 20th century, each specializing in different areas of the design industry: high-end furniture, upholstery and cabinetry. Koefoeds Hornslet was engaged in the production of elegant furniture. In 1964, Koefoed designed the modernist Eva chair, which featured three vertical slats on the backrest and was manufactured by Koefoeds in teak or rosewood. Eventually rosewood was phased out and replaced with cherry. The Eva chair was part of a series of three dining chairs, the other two being the Ingrid chair (1960) and the Lis ladder chair (1961). All, it is believed, were named after important women to Koefoed. Although many of Koefoed’s mid-century designs are produced by the furniture manufacturer Casø, original mid-century productions are highly sought after in the vintage market.
This chairs are in original vintage condition. They have minor traces of use related to age, traces on the seat and wood parts. The seat is at a height of 43 cm.
