Rudolf van Rossem was born on March 19, 1924 in Amsterdam. From 1943, he studied at the State Institute for the Education of Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam as a student of Arend Hendriks and Jan van Tongeren. In the first half of the 1950s, he lived in England, where he lectured at Great Yarmouth College of Art, and in 1958-1985 he taught at the Tilburg Academy. Among his students were Karin Deneer, Hans Innemée, Phil Weterings, and Ad Willemen. As an artist, Van Rossem made sculptures, drawings and pen drawings, engravings in wood and copper, bookplates, lithographs, decorations and costume designs. He won a gold medal at the Accademia Delle Belle Arti in Parma, an award for graphics at the Gorizia Biennale, Europäische Kulturpreis and gold at the Perugia Biennale in 1972. He became a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion. Van Rossem was a member of BBK, De Grafisch and the London Society of Wood Engravers and an honorary member of the Accademia Delle Arti del Disegno in Florence. Ru van Rossem works have been auctioned multiple times, reaching prices above $ 1,500.
