Description
This large conference table was designed by Christian Hvidt for the Danish manufacturer Søborg Møbelfabrik during the 1960s. This table was produced on a special order from Den Danske Bank in Haderslev. It is made of high-quality mahogany wood in a warm shade of light brown. This wood is mostly used for the production of exclusive furniture, art objects and musical instruments. The rectangular table is functional with simple, classic lines. The original signature is under the top.
Søborg Møbelfabrik was founded in 1890 by the carpenter Jacob E. Jacobsen. The company was managed from generation to generation by the Jacobsen family, producing furniture of consistently high quality that reflected the tradition of Danish design. In the 1950s and 1960s, the company collaborated with Danish furniture designers, experimenting, manufacturing and displaying furniture at the annual exhibitions of the Copenhagen Carpenters Guild. The main designers were Børge Mogensen, Bernt Petersen, Mogens Lassen, Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard.
The table is in original vintage condition. It has traces of age, scratches, scrapes and discoloration on the wood.
