Description
This three-seater sofa was designed by Danish designer Johannes Andersen for the Swedish manufacturer Trensum in 1958. This model comes from prestigious Capri series. The frame of this modernist sofa has a boomerang form, with loose seat cushions. This piece was upholstered in the finest quality velvet fabric in the bottle green colour. The base is made of chrome, minimalist T-shaped legs. The geometric form in the Space Age style distinguishes this sofa from others. It is an elegant and interesting design that impresses from all sides. The sofa has a wide seat, designed so that the comfort of rest is as high as possible. Perhaps Andersen’s most famous design and currently the most sought-after, showcases all of the elements for which he was known: a truly distinctive form, striking curves and cut edges that softened the design presenting a more organic approach to shape and form. This sofa is a design icon.
Johannes Andersen was born in 1903. He is one of the most famous Danish designers of the 20th century. He apprenticed as a cabinet maker, becoming certified in 1922. By the mid-1930s, when Danish modern design rose in popularity beyond Denmark, he opened his own workshop. Successful from the beginning, he quickly developed his style, influenced by Danish trends and the Scandinavian ethos. He continued to work with other design houses as well, including CFC Silkeborg in Denmark and Trensum in Sweden. He died in 1991, but his name is immortal as he is known around the world for his way of playing with shapes.
This sofa is in very good vintage condition, has been completely restored and reupholstered. The seat is 38 cm high.
